After The GlenAllachie was taken over by Billy Walker’s team they presented a series of 50th Anniversary bottlings , single casks released in 50 cl bottles. They were quite old (distilled 1978 – 1991) so we’re trying one of the younger casks: GlenAllachie 1990 cask #2517 , a sherry butt. It is considered to have been a ‘prequel’ series with more single cask following soon.

Cask Orkney 18 Years is a new single Maltwhisky released by A.D. Rattray in juni 2018. Distilled on the Isle of Orkney, this should be Highland Park , matured in ex-bourbon casks.

Nose: nicely aromatic, with baked apples, juicy pears and vanilla, honey, lemon candy and a touch of marzipan. Very fresh. Also hints of chalk and seaweed. Beeswax. Perhaps light jasmine? Mouth: fresh citrus (lemons and oranges), creamy yoghurt, rather summery. Earl Grey. Peaches and toffee. Whiffs of grassy smoke in the background. Subtle coastal hints...

Continuing with the GlenAllachie line up review and today we’re up to the 18 Year Old. This time only two kind of casks were involved in creating this whisky: PX sherry casks and American Oak casks (which I assume is a code name for ex-Bourbon casks).

Since I liked the 12 Year Old a lot and the 10 Year Old isn’t too shabby, lets see if the trend continue with this older sibling.

After checking out and reviewing the three more affordable expressions from the new GlenAllachie line up, it’s time to conclude our line up coverage with the new 25 Year Old.

Like with the 18 Year Old whisky we have a combo of PX sherry casks and american oak. 6000 bottles were produced and bottled at a bit higher ABV of 48% (comparing to the 46% used for the other three in the line up).

Buffalo Trace Distillery has released details of this year’s Antique Collection (also known as BTAC), hitting shelves in a few weeks. The five whiskeys—George T. Stagg bourbon, William Larue Weller bourbon, Eagle Rare 17 year old bourbon, Thomas H. Handy Sazerac rye, and Sazerac 18 year old rye—remain the same in almost every way, other than (for some) proof. This year, however, marks a significant change for Eagle Rare 17, whose proof—previously 45% ABV—will bump up to 50.5% ABV, which was the proof when the Eagle Rare brand debuted in 1974.
