Kilchoman 100% Islay is exactly what it is, everything is done at the distillery from the barley to bottle.
This is their 4th edition in this serie and they have used a combination of 32 five year old and 8 four year old first fill bourbon barrels.
Unfortunately, i didn't had any of the other editions at hand but i have tried both the 1st and the 3rd release where the 1st is just lovely.
ENGLISH - NOSE:
Starts off rater oily with fruits of pear and even more citrus. Maritime saltiness which is nicely integrated in the oily and fruity character. Obviously we got peat smoke in the more earthy way, but it doesn't feel like it´s upfront, rather in there with the rest. Some waves of TCP and bitter almond which in this case brings some freshness and makes it dynamic. This is turned down a bit after a while in the glas and leaves room for more vanilla notes.
Starts smooth and round with lemon fruitcake then a wave of saltiness and even more lemon juice. There´s also some nuttiness together with some ash peatiness which gradually grows. Some dry notes of oak with a medium-body mouthfeel.
ENGLISH - FINISH:
Medium-body and medium long sweet finish with earthy peat/ashes together with almonds and lemon. Then the saltiness kicks in with a hint of bitter oak.
ENGLISH - CONCLUSION:
I still find this expressions to be one of my favorites from this distillery even if it was a bit more softer....yeah, i'm tough;).
For being so young, it´s shows a rather mature profile but i still hold the 1st edition as a favorite.
